Kitchen
Price guideline
Renovating your kitchen can completely change the feel of your home, it should also increase your properties value.
- You have many options when it comes to a kitchen renovation. You can play it simple and have your cupboards and bench top re-covered or remade, your floor recovered or sanded and re varnished and, or new appliances that all will help towards giving your old kitchen new life.A full revamp of cupboard doors can cost from $4000 to around $10,000 depending on size and design. This alone can make your kitchen feel brand new. If you add a new kitchen top and sink (starting at around $1000) your kitchen will feel fresh and fully revitalized.
The next step would be a full renovation. This involves stripping everything back and starting from scratch. A basic kitchen will cost you around $10,000 to $25,000, this should give you a full kitchen and if you are smart about your decor and appliance choice, you can create a beautiful kitchen with a few nice bells and whistles at the top end of this bracket.
The next bracket sits at around $20,000 to $40,000. Within this price range you have a bit of room to move when looking at bench tops, sinks and appliances. If you shop for factory second appliances and keep an eye out for good imitation designer tap ware and other fittings, you can build your dream kitchen.
The top end of kitchen renovation starts at $45,000 and can run over $100,000 if you get carried away. I have seen some incredible kitchens with stunning marble bench tops, travertine heated flooring and top of the range everything, which, if you have the money is great, but if you are watching your budget you can create a cooking paradise within the mid range price bracket.

Demolition
Step 1/7
First things first. Demo. have your team come in and tear everything out. You will need a skip or two as a lot of rubbish comes out of a kitchen demo. If you want a completely fresh look it is always best (and sometimes cheaper) to gut the entire room and start from scratch.
Get it ready
Step 2/7
Once completely gutted, bring in your plumber and electrician to rough everything in and run new cables ready for connection near to the end of the process.
Floor
Step 3/7
When you have everything roughed in, you can have your flooring laid or if you are keeping or restoring existing timber flooring, you can patch them up, have them sanded and stained or varnished before the next step.
Prime your walls
Step 4/7
Now is a good time to prime the walls ready for painting before the cupboards go in. It is not a good idea to paint the walls at this point as during installation, walls often get knocked and dented.
Install your kitchen
Step 5/7
It's that time! You can have all of your cupboards and benchtops fitted along with your sink and splashback.
Painting
Step 6/7
Before your white goods go in you should call in your painter to finish off the walls and ceiling.
Install your appliances
Step 7/7
Once dry you can bring in your plumber and electrician in to fit the taps, lights, power points, range hood and appliances.
