Bath time has never been so luxurious

February 17, 2017

Over the last 60 years we have seen huge change in décor, design and technology throughout the whole house. Bathrooms are one room that many don’t consider to be a place to show off design flair, but more and more people are proving that a bathroom can be a whole lot more than a room of function.

I have worked on full home renovations for a while now and bathrooms are my favourite room in the house to tear apart and rebuild with a completely new life.

With so many choices to spark your creativity you can really get creative when planning your relaxing recluse instead of just a functioning washroom.

Have compassion for what once was fashion

Many house-proud home owners had bathrooms that were at the forefront of design and fashion in their day. From the mid 60’s through to the late 80’s bathroom décor was interesting to say the least. From psychedelic wallpaper and furry toilet covers to pink porcelain and chessboard tiles, function clashed with fibulas in a head on collision.

Out with the old, in with the new

Since then we have seen a complete shift the look and feel of a bathroom. With so many colours, patterns, and materials on offer to achieve almost anything, the feel of tranquillity and calm is very in at the moment and many people are using bathrooms to create a peaceful place to bathe, and escape the madness of life.

With baths sinks and showers coming in so many sleek and elegant designs we are spoilt for choice when is comes to designing your personal spa retreat.

With the waterproofing technology we are able to get rid of the awful shower treys and create a walk in shower with a static single glass blade. I find this timelessly elegant and beautifully sophisticated. Free standing baths have been around for years, but now many shapes and sizes available to sit directly on your tiles allowing for a seamless flow throughout your mood inducing peaceful place.

Light exposure

Another style of bathroom that is consistently requested by clients and designers is a bright light-amplifying bathroom that is good if you are not so blessed with space.

Space deprived bathrooms are tricky to get right, but when you get the balance right, the results can be simply beautiful.

With a white bathroom, it is important to add texture in the form of a mosaic feature tile to break up the harshness of the white gloss. Also, touches of timber, matte black fittings and a green plant are a good way to break up the sometimes overwhelming white.
